Anna Engströmer

Consultant, business owner,
wife, mother and seamstress

I am an independent consultant, which means I often travel for work, and I do not always work. Our son has grown big and my husband is busy. It is essential for me to have a serious hobby, one that engages me.

I was never particularly good at sewing in the past, rather better at wood- and tool-based craft. But there was always a sewing machine around. At some point of the pandemic, I found the courage to test things out, one after another. Before I knew it I could master advanced instructions, as well as my own design.

I love ❤️ it!

Threadmaking Tradition

Since the 18th Century,
in Zurich

Zwicky & Co, manufacturing thread, was founded 1939 in Wallisellen right next to Zurich. The site had remained unused for a long time. The successor of that land had plans for the area, which lies on the river Glatt, that eventually flows into the Rhine. Big plans.

Today, Zwicky has near a thousand apartments, of different styles, and quite much of business activity too. In one of those apartments, on the ground floor, the lights are on late at night, with someone carefully operating one of the household's three sewing machines.

Swiss, Perfect, Reliable
the best of two

My grandmother, Maj-Britt, on Öckerö island, got tired of problems with sewingmachines so she went to the near city of Gothenburg and got two brand new ones, one for herself and one for my mother. She went for the best, and she was right.

In its fourth decade now, the main piece of Zwicky machinery is in top shape, not fearing heavy duty use with genuine leather or multiple thick layers. She's also rather silent, and precise. The only bit of issue is with the light bulb, which decides for itself when to be part of operations.
